Being a new nurse, I have a lot of questions such as how long to run in antibiotics, compatible iv fluids, etc.. A COMPACT reference would be super. Any hardcopy references or phone applications that you all can recommend?

I use two apps on my phone as an IV Nurse, Skyscape's: Intravenous Medications by Gahart ($50) and Epocrates (Free)

My Taber's Medical Dictionary (hard copy) came with a year's free access to Taber's iPod application through Skyscape. I use it every day in clinicals. Very handy!

Specializes in jack of all trades.

Not sure if you have a phone that's an Android as there are many applications available on thier own Market which is accessable to research on your phone. I have one for IV calculations and also for ICD-9 Coding which helps me lots in the field.

Specializes in ICU, ER.

Ditto on the Epocrates. I also use Skyscape (the free one) a lot.

IPhone, iPad, iPod touch have numerous apps that I use, epocrates, IV meds, Sedation, Cardio Pharm, ABX Guide, Harriet Lane, Harrisons, Washington Manual, and more.:twocents:

Nursing Central by FA Davis is an amazing app. I use it on my Android phone and iPod touch. It combines Taber's, Labs and Diagnostics, Drug Guide, Disease and Disorders, and Medline Journals, a HUGE timesaver. Worth every penny.
