Applying to Lehman Accelerated BSN Program, HELP!

Published

Hi Everyone! So I'm interested in applying to Lehman's Accelerated Nursing Program for Fall 2018. What is the enrollment number? Currently Im taking my pre reqs. After this spring semester I'm thinking of taking Organic Chem and Microbio at Lehman. Has anyone taken these classes at Lehman? Has anyone taken these classes at surrounding schools? I took the other pre reqs at WCC. I heard the professors for those classes at WCC are really bad. Please let me know any info about your process of taking pre reqs to applying to Lehman. Thank you!

Also my gpa from my previous school was 2.9

and so far i got a B in A&P 1, A in Chem

currently taking A&P 2 and Developmental Psych

The accelerated program is extremely competitive and you will basically need a 4.0 GPA in your pre req (previous GPA does not matter as much as long as you have the minimum passing grade). I applied to both accelerated and 2 year and did not get into accelerated even though my HESI was 92 and my pre req GPA was almost 3.7 (I was accepted into into 2 year program but deferred and now have been accepted elsewhere). The accelerated only accepts 20 students but the 2 year accepts close to 70 students so I would advice you check both options on your application since the minimum GPA for students for the traditional program is a little lower, although you should probably have at least 3.5 to be competitive. I took most of my pre req at Cayuga Community and transferred them to Lehman; I took organic chem at Lehman though and it wasn't bad (I got an A). Good luck in your studies and try to get A's in your remaining courses if possible.

Any more programs you'd like to ask about, or are you only applying to the two?

I'm a current student at Lehman. Unfortunately, I haven't taken Organic Chem or Microbio so I can't help you with that. Do you already have a degree? I checked the application for Lehman College and it states "(Must have a bachelor's degree )" for the Generic-accelerated program. You do need to be a student at Lehman in order to apply for the nursing program. Maybe you should apply, and take Microbio & Organic Chem there. The nursing program is extremely competitive so try to get As on the rest of your pre-reqs (and a high score on your HESI). If everything goes right, I'll be applying for Fall 2018 too. By the way, developmental psych isn't a pre-req for Lehman college (just a heads up! I know it's a common pre-req for a few other schools though). Good luck!

I do have a bachelors. And are you sure about the Developmental psychology? I called and spoke to someone in the nursing department in September and they told me I did need that.

Weird. I spoke to the pre-nursing advisor in November and she told me we only need the sciences. Perhaps it's different for accelerated students. Just keep doing what you're doing.

HIN 268, a pre-req for Lehman is the equivalent of developmental psych so yes you do need it. Also a BS degree is needed for accelerated program only (as with any accelerated program) but you can still apply to both accelerated and 2 year program with just one application.

Thank you for this!

I guess I'll thank you too. The advisors I spoke to told me Bio, Mircobio & Chem. HIN 268/269 wasn't mandatory until after you got into the nursing program. I'll just take 268 anyway.

HIN 268 or its equivalent developmental psychology is mandatory prior to admission but HIN 269 can be taken before or after admissions, therefore not mandatory.
