My daughter has been sick all week. She had a fever Tuesday and Wednesday but my mom took off from work to watch her so that I wouldn't have to miss clinicals. Yesterday (Thursday) she seemed to feel better so I took her to daycare. I made it through my first class (A&P) but they called me right before my second class (Fundamentals) to pick her up because she had a fever again. So I missed fundamentals yesterday and I am missing Assessment as I write this because neither my husband nor my mom could take off work to watch her today. I have never missed any of my nursing or A&P classes before so I am a little freaked out about getting behind:eek: Especially since my nursing classes were covering restraints and auscultating lung sounds. Now I am going to have to find time to see my instructors one-on-one so that I can learn how to do those things. Ugh... As if this week hasn't been stressful enough with starting clinicals...
Anyone else had to miss any classes?? Did you feel like you would never get caught up or was it relatively easy to catch up??

I commuted 60+ miles one way and worked full time at one or more jobs when I was in school, so I missed school a lot. My school started to crack down on absenteeism toward the end. The biggie, of course, was clinicals. But for lectures, until they started to get uptight about it, the attitude was if you could get the material and get your work turned in and tests were passed, well, ok. Make friends that you can borrow notes from. If you tape lectures, ask them to borrow their tape for the day. Do the same for them. See your instructor if you need to. But try to keep from missing class. You will be hurting yourself, more or less, depending on the consequences. Attendance is graded in some classes.
I would seriously consider arranging for outside childcare that you can rely on, even for a sick child. Sooner or later, something will happen on a clinical day. You don't want to mess with making up clinical. Sometimes you can get yourself in an impossible situation and you just don't want to do that. Clinical can be impossible to make up. You don't want to fail out for that.
