I'm looking to start EC and I live in KY. Just wondering if there is anything special I need to do. I'm pretty sure they accept EC but other than that, i thought I read they require 120 hrs of preceptorship. Has anyone from KY completed this program?

I have not completed the program actually I am just going to take my first test next month but I am from Kentucky. I am not sure about the 120 hours of preceptorship. I am also still a litle bit confused with all of this.:wink2::wink2:

One of the forum moderators, BBFRN, is in Kentucky and is an EC graduate.

All new grads in Kentucky are required to do the 120-hour preceptorship, regardless of which school you attend/graduate from.

EC is accepted in KY.

I did the program before the 120 hr rule was implemented, but Lunah is correct. The best way to find a site to complete your 120 hrs is to look on the job boards at local hospitals- Norton & UofL hospitals definitely post their nurse extern positions on their job boards. You will get paid for these hours, and if you do a good job, you may be recruited for a full time RN position whrn you're done.

So, do you do your preceptorship after you complete the course and graduate? My other question is does it have to be at a hospital? I work in a school now and I'm not planning on leaving and I work at the school during the day so I'm trying to figure out how I would do that. But i guess from my understand, wether I did it online or at a local university, I would have to do it????

Yes- you do the hours after you graduate, and all new grads have to do them.

Here are the details from the KBN website. It looks like you have 6 months to complete the required hours, though.
