Anyone Going or been to NHTI Nursing program?

Hey, I'm will be Starting in January at NHTI for Nursing...also my wife is in her final year of the LPN program. She did that because the waiting list was so long. And they screwed up her intake. When they reviewed her for the Nursing program all the pre-reqs she had completed were not showing up. So it didn't show that she had all pre reqs completed she also had a very high GPA and was also a PHI THETA KAPPA..

HMMM..... makes ya wonder. But I digress. NHTI has the highest percentage of people passing the test into nursing so they must be doing something right. I Live here in Penacook. And I'm also looking for locals who want to form study groups.

I have put the nursing thing on the back burner for a while now, I have been thinking of starting the pre-req's through NHCTC-Berlin because I am in North Conway.

I have a hard time imagining that commute to Concord. I also am having a hard time with paying so much for the program because I already have $25k in student loans but I guess I will have to suck it up. I have also contemplated moving to North Carolina someday, and the program would be like $10k less, but I don't know if I will ever move. It's stinky!

I am not sure if I'd be able to go to the program in Concord because of the commute, it just might be too much time with the commute and such, and clinical, I would imagine would be in Southern NH not Northern NH. The program in Berlin is not accredited... believe me, that would be my first choice if it were since it's 45 min away.

I don't know what to do!

Berlin was accredited last year, did that change? When Berlin & Laconia campuses spilt, the accreditation stayed with Berlin and it is actually LAconia that is not, but I do believe something is in the works there as well.

Hmm I will have to look into that, if that is the case then that is absolutely awesome because it's only 45 minutes away and my parents still live in berlin... let me look into that, thanks for the tip.

I had heard they weren't, and when I looked through the nursing boards's accredidation site it didn't list Berlin as one, perhaps it isn't updated.

I called them and they said it is fully accredited through the NLN, but for some reason, it is not listed on the NLN website as accredited, but the Manchester one is. Slightly confused. **

I'm a senior nursing student at the tech. It's definitely a competitive program and there's no denying that it's difficult, but I think it's worth it. NHTI has a great reputation and I understand that many potential employers will choose to hire an NHTI grad over another grad nurse based upon what school they graduated from (all else being equal).

You won't be able to work full time. They recommend no more than 10 hours per week and it's best if you can not work at all. You will eat, sleep, and breath nursing school for 2 years ... prepare to put everything else in your life on hold.

A few suggestions ...

- Where ever you go, form a study group ... I wouldn't survive without my group! You'll become very close and you'll need them for preparing for exams and for emotional support.

- Get all your pre-reqs out of the way before applying - acceptance is based on the grades you get in those classes & your score on the pre-NLN exam

- After completing NU 115, get your LNA license & work part-time - you'll greatly benefit from the experience

- Take NU 116 before NU 117 (I wish I had!)

A lot of people don't make it to graduation, but if your heart is truly in it and you put in 110%, you'll make it. Good luck!

That worries me. I have decided to go to the Berlin Tech because it is only 45 minutes away from where I live...

So, someone else would probably be hired over me because I didn't go to NHTI. That stinks

I don't know how I am even going to do this. I have to work to pay the bills so I don't know how I will pay for school AND living expenses.. and travel expenses. This is what has held me back for so long.

There is no harm in applying and trying things out ...

There are a lot of students in my class with lots of kids and crazy work schedules and they are doing fine. Then there are others without much going on outside school, and they've been asked to leave the program. I really think it depends on how badly you want it.

Umm there program only starts in September, you sure its NHTI we are talking about NHTI, Concord??? Also NHTI does not have a waitng list, they go by a point system and the people with the most points get in, if you don't, you have to re-apply all over again and then it depends on the other people you are up against. The points system is not just based soley on your GPA, it also takes into concideration life experience (in the healthcare field), NLN Score, how many classes you have done, and most importantly your letters of reference.

I graduated from NHTI's nursing program last May (2007) and it was not a bad program, I did not care for a couple of the clinical instructors though, some of them have been out of bedside nursing for waay to long and others that have only done psychiatric nursing they have working as instructors on med surg floors.

RN2B08 your lucky you got to choose 117 or 116, we had no choice, it was just a random thing. I hated every minute of 117, but loved 116 (except for the geriatric part, although I did like doing the flu clinic, sorry Proffesor K. T.)

What I did like about NHTI is that they have very good clinical sights, especially Concord Hospital, 3 out of four semester I waas on a tele floor for part or all of the rotation. No nursing home rotation was also nice (sorry again Professor K.T.)

I was able to get two jobs after graduation, both in busy Emergency Rooms, although obviously I only could choose one, but it was nice to have a choice. Employers do seem to like NHTI Graduates, especially Concord, they hired about 30 of my classmates.
