Anyone going to MCPHS in 2008?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi all,

I am new to this and wanted to say hi! Also, I was wondering if anyone is going to Mass College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences next year-I just found out last week that I was accepted into their 16 month accelerated BSN program in Worcester... :monkeydance:

Hi Nurse2B80! Just wanted to say congratulations to you! I'm actually starting at MCPHS this fall, but at the Manchester campus. Let's keep in touch!

hello,

i just became a member to this site because of all the great advice everyone was giving to each other. i'm in a tough position in regards to mcphs nursing program, and would love to hear everyone's advice!

i have a couple of questions pertaining to that manchester campus which i've mainly been looking into. where are the clinical sites? i'm not familiar with any of the manchester area hospitals and am having a hard time figuring this information out. also i'm from the boston area and am now wondering if a commute from boston to manchester is manageable everyday. if there is anyone out there in the manchester program who does commute i would love to hear their opinion on this issue.

i'm torn because now i am also wondering if i should have put more consideration in the worcester campus. i am more familiar with the hospital in the worcester area, but again i am faced with the issue of whether or not a commute from boston would be possible.

lastly, i would love to hear feedback from anyone in the program (either campus) or recent gradates about the quality of teaching etc... i've read some negative comments about some of the professors and don't know if i should regard such criticisms, everyone likes different teaching styles.

thank you all, and good luck to everyone!!

Hi all,

I got accepted to MCPHS-manchester, and I think I'm going to go since I'm waitlisted on the other school.

I'm not from NH and am not really familiar about the area, I would love to hear from the current students and incoming fall 08 students!

Thanks

rosemary08, are you waitlisted at the Worcester campus?? Also are you planning on living in Manchester NH since you are not from the area?

Thanks for your response!

Hi Gosox08! are you going to manchester?? if you are,,let's keep in touch!

I'm waitlisted one in NYC. I only applied to manchester campus since it starts in fall, I cannot wait until next spring! =/

yea,,I"m going to live in NH. do u know if i need a car to get around?

I think it takes about 1hour or little more drive from Boston to manchester..that's going to be alot of gas money!!

I'm not at MCPHS, but I do live in the area. There is some public transportation in Manchester, and most routes go past the MCPHS "campus" which is downtown. I have never used it, though, so I can't report on the quality of the service.

You'd also want to check with the school to find out where the clinical sites are. There are hospitals in Manchester, but the competition for placements is pretty high with all the nursing schools in the area. I am not sure how this has worked out for MCPHS since they're the new kids on the block (they only opened the program this past September).

GoSox08, I used to commute the other way and I think that commuting from Boston to Manchester would be easier since you're going against the flow of traffic for the most part. That being said, traffic in this area is busy regardless of which direction you're travelling in. It would probably be easier to commute if you lived a little farther north, but it's certainly not impossible.

Hi, I am applying to the program. I have everything in except my personal essay. Ugh, having a hard time writing it. How long was it before you found out you were accepted?

Cassie

Cassie, they let me know about a week after I applied. What is ur GPA? I think if u have the gpa they are looking for and rest of the required stuff u should be fine.

are you applying for fall 2008?

No, I'm applying for Jan. of 09' for the Worcester Program. I met with one of the Brian's in the admission office last week and he told me that my GPA was very good. It's a 3.6, around there somewhere. I'm really nervous though. How was your admission essay? I'm having a hard time writing it. I just sent it to someone to proof read it for me. I'd like to get it sent to them in the next few days.

When are you starting the program?

I spent some time writing my essay; I wrote about why I want to be a nurse-family illness, my volunteer exp and work exp, and put all those into one essay. I then took it to a local university writing shop to proofread.

Just write it from your heart why u want to be a nurse, and u should be fine.

I"m starting this fall 08', I'm nervous and excited!!
