so i'm taking care of this patient in clinical tomorrow and the doctor wrote an order to cleanse the peri area with milk daily. he told another rn that there are certain proteins in milk that this patient could benefit from.
this sounds soo bizzare to me! has anyone ever seen this before?? if so could you share your experience? thanks

I wonder if he is confusing milk with yogurt? I would think the sugar in the milk would promote yeast and/or bacterial growth. Yogurt, however, has live active cultures (some more than others) that would help prevent yeast. But still, it can get pretty messy!!!
Yeah, definetely wierd. I never was able to get to the bottom of the reason for the order during my shift either. No one else could figure it out!!!

Yikes thats weird. Not for me thanks. You should ask if the pt should get 2% or low-fat. Ha.

This could have been an old remedy. You have captured my interest. I shall return with an answer. Possibly, Homeopathic therapy.

I have seen milk to help lessen a sunburn. I can't remember the actual therapy, but evidently you are supposed to take motrin soon as you can after the excessive sun exposure (lessens the inflammatory process) and use cotton to swab milk on the affected areas. I want to say it has something to do with the lactic acids in the milk that also help relieve the symptoms but I am not sure of the actual mechanism.
