does anyone else working night shift have to take call?

Is anyone required to take call while working night shift? If so what is your call policy for night shift? I am required to be on call 2 weeks straight every month!! And I am on call the entire day/night..even the nights I work I am on call? It is impossible for me to be awake all night and all day..every day..while I am on call...I think there are some kind of labor laws being broken..I am at my wits end...

On my unit,( L & D), all the full timers have to take call. work 3 12's per week, with one call shift biweekly. Whether its day or night shift.

We do call but its one weekend every 3 months or so.. The call is on your weekend off and it is for the shift you normally work.. You can't be on call if you are already working :(

Who comes up with this stuff..

Sounds like management logic to me. If you are short staff they can say that they tried calling in the on call people with no response.
