Jessicuy - what ericab said is correct what I understand is they look at the whole picture with emphasis on how u do in ur science classes. Also if u already have ur CNA try getting a job at a local hospital (northwest, st alexius, alexian brothers) if possible they have a partnership with harper college and u can apply to the nursing program throught them and also from what I hear from other CNAs a lot of the things we see at our work help us in the nursing program.

EricaB and cityof_wonder thank you for your responses, it is very much appreciated. I think Harper college has a very good way of selecting their future nursing students since they look at the overall history of their students and can judge fairly. At my school they mainly look at the nln scores which is not really that fair I would think but who knows, every school is different.

Cityof_wonder which hospital do you work for? How do they help you get into a nursing program? I have my cna certification but haven't really worked as one yet although I would love to get some experience with direct patient care. I currently work for a hospital as a patient care assistant but it does not really provide patient care directly.

Jessicuy: I work for St Alexius, what I mean when I say that they help you is that st alexius, Alexian brothers, and Northwest have a partnership with Harper, St alexius and alexian brothers each have 10 seats secured in the harper nursing program, northwest has 20 seats. which means they HAVE to take that certain amount of people if they meet the requirements. Also with that partnership the residency requirement is waved. Your hospital's nurse recruiter gives you the application for harper and you turn it in like the regular application.

Cnas who are in the program and RNs that already completed the program have told me that having the CNA experience has helped them a great deal mainly because they are used to the clinical setting, and u have experience coming in contact with patients. Also in my floor PCT are required to learn the desk, which means u learn to do orders and prescriptions and become familiar with them. Of course there are some people who become great nurses without any experience, but experience never hurts.

So did any of you register? I registered on Monday. I got into the Tues morning class with clinicals at ABMC pms. I'm also taking PSY228 this summer. Anyone taking summer classes?

I registered monday too. I also got into the tuesday morning class and the wed morning clinical at SAMC, with lab tuesdays. Also registered for patho monday mornings. I was hoping to take patho over the summer but I couldn't do it with my schedule. So I'm taking the summer off :) I took psy228 last summer dr campbell is great, I don't know why she gets a bad rap from other students.

I registered, too! I got Patho Mon morning, 110 &111 Tues Morning, Micro Mon and Wed @ 1, and then 112 lab tues at 1, and clinicals at SAMC Fri 7-2. I wish I could have taken micro or patho over the summer, but I have a vacation planned the first week of June, and my husband would kill me if I tried to reschedule just so I could take more classes this summer!
