You might find more information from the nurses who post in the Correctional Nursing specialty area, here.
Good luck!

I work as a Registered Nurse Specialist in a men's prison. There are many likes...and even more dislikes. All in all...I do like my job for now. I am employed by the State of Florida so the perks are nice. I work in a psychiatric dorm right now and that tends to be challenging. You still have to maintain some level of compassion...definitely isn't easy. We have inmates whose crimes range from street racing to first degree murder. We have a lot of melingering inmates. Our dorm is the only one that is air conditioned...so in the summer the inmates pretend to be crazy so they can be housed in a single man cell with AC.
I try to remind myself that I get to go home every night...I get to enjoy any food I want...any TV show...I can use my phone whenever I want...they can't. It kind of puts things into a greater perspective. :)
