I have been an ED nuse for ten years (six as a traveler). I have finally burned out on the ED (and traveling). I am looking for a place to settle down and a new unit to work on. I have always thought that the Cardiac or burn/trauma unit would be a great change. Does anyone work on a unit they would recommend? Great coworkers, great doctors, and a place that really values great patient care? I want an environment where I can really learn - not one where they just throw you out on the unit and expect you to know it. And all this should be in a great town/city with lots to do outside or inside. Does such a place exist?

I love where I work. Detroit. I work at the DMC in the CT ICU, and there is a great burn ICU at Detroit Receiving. If you like the inner city, and teaching hospitals, come to Detroit! We have a lot of autonomy. Let me know if u want more info :)

Tampa General Hospital in Florida has an amazing CTSICU. ECMO, LVADS ,CRRT, IABP etc on a regular basis. Magnet facility, Clinical ladder that compensates and acknowledges your skills, education etc.

Broken heart, do you work at TGH? If so, do you know if they have any new graduate programs for RN's just getting out of school?

When I was a civilian I worked in the combined ICU at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, NYC. "Best Cancer Care Anywhere" and IMHO the best professional, caring, competent Nurses as well!
