hey everyone! i am new to this site and i am SOOO glad that i found it! i'm starting in the fall for nursing (program starts in the spring, if i get in). I am very nervous about being a nurse. I want to work with children and babies. Any advice or things i should know before i start? thanks :)

Go volunteer and shadow nurses before you start the program. Call up your local hospital, most hospitals love to have young people come work in the game/rec rooms on pediatric floors. That'll give you a chance to spend time around nurses, ask them all sorts of questions, give back to your community, and play with really cool toys you wish you had when you were a kid.

nursing school is so much fun :) advise would be just get stuck into the work, do it consistently and dont freak out too much about exams, just do them and do ur best! Im in nursing school and Im really not finding it thaaat difficult, fair enuf ive pulled an all nighter here or there before exams (not recommended) but hey you gota go out and have fun aswell!! It gives ya something to look forward to. Just do any assignments to the best of your ability but do not leave em to the last minute...not a good idea.....seen lots of my friends stressin! Advise for clinicals would be to get comfy shoes!! Stay hydrated too oh nd make sure u have eaten something if you are going in to see a procedure (even something simple like a wound dressing being changed), fainting isn't fun or even the about to faint feeling. Not sayin u will faint but dont help the process along by havin low blood sugar levels :) If you have questions, ask! its the only way you'll learn and remember its normal to feel nervous about doing things for the first time. I remember givin my first subcut injection. I was sooo nervous but my preceptor said that i was a a ''great girl'' and my patient said I didnt hurt them at all! :) Just make sure you have someone with you to walk you through how to do things :) My preceptor stayed by my side the entire time. Oh be prepared to cry sometimes too, seeing things for the first time can be really tough, I went home nd cried quite a number of times. Though on the up sides, theres always more laughs and the satisfaction you'll get from the job you do outweighs any of those bad days :) Just be prepared is all im saying. The best advise I can give you really is just go and have fun, enjoy it all and think positive eg. its a ''dirty'' job= im really helping someone. Take the good with the bad, OH very important MAKE LOTSA NEW FRIENDS :) :) :) support each other and just have fun!!! i cant wait to get back to NS after the holidays!!!!!!
