Anticipation is killing me!

Hello everyone!

So it's just been about 3 weeks since I interviewed for a maternity position at a hospital that I've always wanted to work for. I thought the interview went really well! The manager was very nice and easy to talk to. She asked me to come and shadow which I did 2 weeks ago and I enjoyed my day on the floor.

The staff was great. The nurse I shadowed with was very sweet. I loved the unit. After my day on the floor was done, I checked in with the manager. She asked me how my day went. I told her I loved everything. That I could see myself working there. She seemed very happy to hear that. She said that they had two more candidates to interview but she said I would probably hear by the end of next week.

Well last week came and went and no word. I was hoping maybe I would hear something on monday or yesterday but still nothing. I did send out thank you letters to the manager and nurse recruiter (who also interviewed me).

Even at this moment, I keep looking at my cell phone and checking my email. I hate feeling so anxious. My heart flutters like crazy whenever my phone rings! I thought about giving a call to the nurse recruiter to check on the status but I feel I should at least give it to the end of the week. It's possible that they're busy. Maybe they haven't made a decision yet. Maybe they had to reschedule the interviews.

I'm staying hopeful though. A friend of mine also applied for the same position and interviewed. I know about a week ago she received a rejection email and then phone call. So I'm thinking no news is good news (for now).

What do you guys/gals think? Should I give it a few more days or call them today?

By the way, thank you to any one who listens and responds to my post. It feels so good just to get it all off my chest!

Also just to note: I have 5 years of maternity experience so hopefully that will lean towards my favor as well.

    I would just wait until they contact you. The following may not pertain to you, but I have had the unfortunate opportunity of having a great interview, and given the impression that I should be receiving word in a week of a job offer. Weeks passed with no call back. I called the manager's telephone number, which she stated to contact her if I had any questions, and left a message. No call back to my message. I later found out I was being interviewed for the position, to give the impression their already chosen candidate was the best choice. Several months later I received a call from their HR asking if I would be interested in a position with their great facilty. I simply stated: %^&*# NO!, and hung up. jI hope you have better luck!

    Thanks! Unfortunately that's what I'm afraid of. From what I know there are two positions but they could probably end up hiring from within. They even have a part time position posted as we speak. Ah well, I'll just have to try not to think about it! It will be disappointing if they don't offer me a position. Just have to remember if it's meant to be, it's meant to be. Life goes on :nurse:

    Sorry to hear about your situation. Sucks they never got back to you until months later! I would probably have had to say the same thing!

    I think calling to check on it at this point is reasonable and reiterates your interest.

    I agree with not.done.yet. There's no harm in one more call. They may be busy, or flighty. A little nudge might do the trick. Or at least give you some closure if they filled the position with someone else.

    I decided I will call first thing in the morning. If anything it will help give me peace of mind and also remind them I'm very interested. It definitely couldn't hurt. Hopefully, I'll get the outcome I'm hoping and praying for! Thanks everyone :)

    Let me make sure I understand - your friend interviewed for the same position and she got a rejection letter last week? And you haven't heard anything yet? If I understand the situation correctly, then I would say you probably have the job, and the only reason you haven't heard anything yet is the offer is pending background and reference checks, and they're waiting for that to come back. Just a thought, having been through this recently myself. Plus, we just recently hired someone, and it took about 10 days from when we made the decision and when our manager actually made the phone call and offered her the job, because she had to wait for the green light from HR.
