Due to limited reimbursement from Medicaid it's extremely uncommon to be offered or granted a raise in private duty nursing. Do not be surprised if denied. Nurses can go 3-5 years in pdn with out ever receiving a raise unless they update their license or credentials. Some agencies can pay a premium for high tech qualified nurses as some state Medicaid programs pay a premium for high tech cases (it happens in my state) but not often.
It never hurts to ask! I never did because I thought it wouldn't happen. Finally after my third year I did, and my clinical mgr laughed! She was sure it wouldn't happen, but she said she'd try for me and put in a good word. I don't know what she said, but I started seeing an extra DOLLAR per hour the following month. Nice surprise there!

This will be my first annual eval with this company. I work for a home health agency and do PDN. Could anyone tell me what exactly happens? Before this I worked at a nursing home and did get an eval but didn't seem like a big deal, I was given a raise and told everything was good that I didnt have complaints and never called in or was late. This is the first time I work at a pt's home, and I'm on as PT but I work 50 hrs a wk and have two pt's. I guess my questions are what should I expect, is it okay to ask for a raise and if so do you just come out and ask or do you give an amount? I not sure how to go about with this. Thanks for any advise or input.
