Hi All,new to the forum here,i was wondering if any of you are familiar with the company Amedisys.I am interested in psychiatric nursing in the community.I notice their isnt much availability in behavioral health in florida compared to other states.Any feedback greatly appreciated, thanks:heartbeat

BEWARE of those per visit offers! You will end up working a whole lot of extra hours outside of the housecall with redundant paperwork and not getting paid because it falls under the "per visit pay". I figured out my pay at an average of $15 an hour - gross. Mileage isn't fully compensated if at all, administrations decides what miles you have driven and will pay you accordingly regardless of what you actually drive and you don't get paid for driving time either which can add up to hours. Amedisys is also very "write up happy" for "performance improvement" you are set up to fail and rarely is it otherwise. You are expected to be 100% 100% of the time and with all of the "little" rules, it is impossible to be 100% 100% of the time with Amedisys, unless you are in the administrative end of the business, then you can get a way with anything you want to.

Doesn't take care of the field staff, only the office staff.

Keep notes on ALL of your visits. You may need another file cabinet. Just CYA! Because Amedisys is top heavy with management and redundant paperwork, things go missing, then the field staff takes the fall. CYA CYA CYA.

Good Luck:heartbeat

Thanks 5448 for your reply.I have a similar amount paperwork to do here in NY .Is it only pay per visit or is their base salary positions also. Our pay per visit is 55 dollars hour but no benefits.Do you know of any other decent mental health agencies in fl? Thanks for any info:bow:

I'm sorry, I don't. Talking to other nurses in your area will give you a good well rounded view of the companies there. Something I didn't do before going into this HH company. But on the agencies I loved, other nurses spoke well of. Ask if you could ride out with a nurse a few times and keep your eyes and ears open. Listen to what they are saying to each other and to what they are not saying. Sometimes the companies take on so many patients the nurses are desperate for help, observe body language. Trying to keep up with 8 to 9 hh patients a day is very tough.

Travel nurses sometimes get beat to death with overload, our travel nurses would be up until 2:00 am. FYI

If you're interested in community mental health you might try working with the FACT Team. It stands for Florida Assertive Community Treatment. They have them in areas all over Florida. It may be difficult to get a lot of information about them on the internet because most don't have websites. I believe they originated with the company I work for which is Renaisance Behavioral Health Services (RBHS) but someone can correct me if I'm wrong about that. I work for them in Jacksonville but I work at a crisis center, but not as a nurse I'm in nursing school. I work in emergency services very closely with the nurses.

On another note I used to work in mental health in Pennsylvania before I moved to Florida and I was absolutely shocked at the difference in services between the two states. It's VERY different down here. It may be different in other parts of the state but we have some very sick people here and there are almost no services for them. They are managed mostly by the FACT Teams in the community. If you want to PM me I can give you the information to contact RBHS about FACT Team positions.

Thanks kiwi 65 for your info on the fact team i had come across that before.I had thought about working with them in jacksonville too.Do you have any idea on salary with them? I think the mental health system in florida needs some major updating.I noticed there are practically no services at all for the mentally ill.How does everyone cope, where do families go for help? Thanks again
