Am i really stupid

I just failed 2nd try on math calculations, I had two nursing classes and did well but did not pass math. I had algebra before and passed it successfully.......We only had one hr to do 50 plus questions and not even have a chance to double check answers. Another person also did not pass.........We have to take math over next fall and clinicals in Jan 2010. I am not sure what i am going to do................time is not on my side...age wise.........

I feel for you, we get one chance to take our math test each semester, and last Fall I failed by 2 pts! So, I am waiting until next Fall to get back into the program and finish my last year. I will be 42 this Summer so time is slipping from me too, but I will not give up for any reason so I just don't think about it. I do think the time for the test is unfair...we get 2 minutes per question so for 50 questions we would have more than an hour! Sorry this happened to you but keep you chin up!

If you passed college algebra you can do nursing math with ease. Block out all the "Math is the Devil" BS and concentrate on what the problem wants.

Are there specific types of problems that are causing you problems?

it is too late now. I am considering another school (the school i attended had some other issues, lack of technology, etc), i am going to concentrate on what sites you told me and also work on math book this summer.

What semester are you in? You will have to start all over with nursing classes if you go to another school, most likely, so you might add on more time than staying where you are and finishing when they let you back in...just a thought. :) Good Luck with whatever you do:heartbeat

That would be unlikely, hopefullyclass transfer, the school where i attend now is sadly lacking on technology, etc.

Try to find yourself a tutor. I'm sure your school has places for you to go to get free help. We have an LC (learning center) where they have tutors that are there all day long as long as the school is open. And they also have group and individual study session!

I used the free tutor at the school then hired one for a short period. It was fairly expensive, but not as much as repeating a class and sitting out a whole semester. Once it "clicked" I ended up making A's in algebra and statistics. So it is possible. I have a feeling your anxiety level is preventing you from absorbing the concepts. You need to work with someone you trust and who has a little patience.

that might be true for people who passed college algebra within the past year or so but for some of us it's been a loooooong time since college and while i passed college algebra i have no clue how i did it because i don't recall getting anything from the teacher. :) i am signed up for math for health care professionals which we are required to take at my school before we enroll in the fall. so hopefully that will get me into practice.

I too am sitting out a semester because of a failed pharm calculations test, hear is the kicker, none of my math was wrong were I lost points were in the work (we have to show all work, everything must be labeled, etc) oh and shading in a syringe I went over the line. This is my last semester I never failed anything before and I was devastated, believe me, I show be graduating in 3 weeks, I still haven't decided to go back or start somewhere else, I have been doing problems but my school is very particular about showing work and I am kind of scared of going back
