Am I setting myself up to fail?!

Published

Hello all. :) I've lurked for awhile and this forum actually gave me the push to go back to school for nursing.

I'm 23 and have been out of school for 6 years now(!!) I did well in school and graduated early with a 3.6GPA. I have 2 little ones at home(3 & 1y/o) and work part time(second shift) as a caregiver 20 hours/wk. I had originally planned to only take 6 credits, but now I'm considering 9. However, I'm nervous as I have not been in school in so long.. but on the flip side, two of these classes would be online. Here's my schedule;

English Compostion/Online.

Intro to Sociology/Online.

Pre-Algebra// T/Th 12:15-1:55pm.

Seems easy enough...maybe? Any fellow mom students? Any advice?

Once again, thank you all!!

Go for it! I took English and Basic College Mathematics online, they were a piece of cake, and for the most part, I've been out of school for almost 5 years when I took these. I've heard Sociology is not very demanding and one of the easier ones. I think you'll do just fine with 9 Credits! ;) I've been doing around 10-12 Credit Hours and work part-time as well. I don't have kids of my own, but I do look after my 4 year old brother and 1 year old sister often and still find time for studies and did great in these classes. Good luck! I believe you'll do just fine with these beginning pre-reqs!

You can do it! I'm taking 11 credits this semester and my little bitty is only 4 months old. I've been out of school for about 5 years, but it'll come to you. I find that being willing to work hard is the best indicator of how you'll do. If you really want this, you'll do fine. Good luck this semester!

You can def do it!!! I was out of school for 12 years (didn't really do well in high school because I wasn't into school at the time) but I took 13 credit hours my first semester (intro to chem, intro to A&P, college comp I, gen psych). I ended with a 4.0. I also have 3 kids (12, 7, 3 at the time) and was working 30 hours a week. If I could do it, anyone could. Best of luck to you and I'm sure you will do fine.
