All that reading...

I am not yet a nursing student (just a little ole PRE-nursing student) lol. Anyway, I have read many posts about the amount of reading you are required to do in a short amount of time. Are you really able to comprehend all that you read? Seems like you have to really fly through it all just to get it done in time - is it actually soaking in?

I am also wondering how much time you invest over all in just reading chapters?

I can honestly say that I don't read EVERYTHING, but rather skim over it....our professors use power point presentations also so I use those to locate the main ideas, and then use my text to get a detailed reference.

selectively skim. Its impossible to read everything.

Yes its a lot of reading, but u skim over it each day to keep it fresh! I too am a (starting over) pre-nursing student. I took the lpn course back in 01, but I am giving it another try!! Just make sure u take good notes.

I do outlines, using all of various headings. From there, I look for the main points in each section and then move on.

Actually I read most of the chapters. I needed it all to 'click', so I read it all to get the full understanding of it. Did it take time? Yes. Lots. But I understood the WHY and that was important for me. The teachers normally just highlighted points on the Power Point. The chapters explained in detail the physiology of it.

You will find a method that works for you. Good luck!

It makes it easier when you like what you read I guess....I always did read everything, highlighted it and took notes on what I went over of my own...had a fiend who would read every signle chapted twice......it is a very individual thing....some people do some don't, some absorb quick some don't.....but I never felt it was overwhelming...I guess I liked what I was learning about :)

We read A LOT. O.O

I'm in the two year ADN program and I just started my second year and our first exam is only 7 days (the next monday...) from when we came back. This class Is Medical Surgical Nursing for Adults and Children and the topic we are doing first is Cardio. We covered 9 chapters plus some additional pages on pulmonary embolisms. The chapters in this text are NOT short.... you just do what you can to learn it. [=
