ALBERTA-LPNs

Published

I am entering my second year of the LPN program at NorQuest College. I am having a very difficult time finding information on which hospital units LPNs are not permitted to work. Specifically in Alberta, Canada.

I am interested in knowing whether or not I need to continue on and become an RN in order to work on a Trauma team or in Cardiac care units, ICU and Pediatric ER (THE Stollery).

If anyone works at the University of Alberta or the Royal Alex I would really appreciate any information you have. I understand that policy is different depending on the institution.

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Thread moved to Nursing in Canada to elicit further response. Good luck.

With the changes to scope of practice and the much lauded staff utilization bandwagon, who knows where we can't work in 18 months time?

I know there are LPNs in the Calgary ICUs. We are in the NICU and ER at RAH and work all the surgical services floors.

That's really good to know. Thanks :)
