Alameda County

U.S.A. California

hi everyone, i am a may 2010 new grad (with no experience) and i applied for a registered nurse 1 position for alameda county. the job search has been so difficult in the bay area, but i have kept at it, and have continued to apply to an endless amount of jobs. a few days ago, i was sent an email saying i was ranked 4th on the eligibility list for recruitment for alameda county. 4th, really?! needless to say i am pretty shocked because i ranked 38 for santa cruz county, and san mateo never even got back to me with a rank. anyways, i've heard that in california many of the counties have an extremely slow hiring process, and that it can take up to a year before you even get an orientation. can anyone tell me how the hiring process goes in alameda county? thanks!

Specializes in NICU.

i also got the email stating that i was 4th on the list. how is that possible?

Fourth must be the ranking of the day. I would not pause the job search.

What?! REALLY BigMan? I don't understand. I'm sad now :(

Specializes in Trauma ICU, Peds ICU.

Most civil service jobs (i.e. police, fire, county nursing) rank potential hires into "bands" or "ranks". This is probably what they meant.

Example, when I was still applying to fire departments years ago they would rank from Band V (Veteran's who scored 90% or better overall), then Band 1 on down.

I'd call their HR department to clarify.

Specializes in Medical/Oncology.

I got the email too saying I was 4th as well...

I got an email March 23rd that said: "Congratulations! Your application for Registered Nurse I indicates that you meet the minimum qualifications for the examination. Your name has been placed on the eligible list with a total score of 80. At this time your rank on the eligible list is 4."

I'm not holding my breath...
