Age Factor

I am 52 yrs. old and am considering a career change to nursing was wondering if my age would be a factor in nursing school acceptance.

I will turn 50 a month into this Fall semester, my first in the nursing program at my school. I will be 52 at graduation. I am encouraged to see all the men my age that are begining nursing careers at this stage of their lives. Thank you, this will definately be a motivator for me during times of doubt.

Did anyone see Michelle Obama's speech last night? Now that is inspirational! Think of what CAN BE, and your fears will disappear!

Nursing board....male nursing board.

Dr. Laura is full of bologna.

Yes, bologna and a whole host of other things! :p

I'm just starting school at age 42, and hearing all these positive stories about folks in their 40's, 50's, and up, just starting out really makes me feel GREAT, that it really CAN be done! I truly feel inspired by y'all!

Hey, I'm 54 and doing it! Have to do pre reqs about a year before I can apply....into a "lottery" completely up to a computer..just have to have a c average.....my school is not accepting anything over 10 years old in education...unless its a degree...so I am a 54year old Freshman, again. LOT of LUCK!

I am excitedly looking forward to starting the LPN program next Tuesday at the age of 57!

one of my male classmates is 50yrs old, so i dont think it is a bad idea at all, if thats what you prefer to do then go for it.

I'll be 49 in May--sunny side of 50 by the time I graduate. Second career for me. Luckily, I'm still healthy and in reasonable condition, But I must admit agism has been a concern. Seeing it in other lines of work already. It does make me feel better seeing posts from other guys having good experiences.

:chuckle:chuckle:chuckle

age would not be a factor in nursing school acceptance. Nursing students ages do not matter to the schools.

I'll be 55 when I graduate with ASN in December 2008.

Trust me you are not to old to be a nurse. I once met someone who was 52 and studying to be a BSN. Guess what he passed and now is up and ready to take his boards. This proved to me that you can do anything you wish to do as long as you have the spirit in you to do it! Cheers to you all!
