Nurses Recovery

Hello all!

I am in the process of attempting to have my RN license re-instated after revocation (AZ). It was revoked due to alcohol abuse. I have now been sober 12 years and want to get back into nursing.

My question is, does anyone have experience with AZ? Is it likely they will re-issue my license. I am aware of my mistakes in the past and have worked very hard to correct them.

If anyone has suggestions or information, I would greatly appreciate any help/insight you can offer.

Thank you and enjoy your day!

Fingers crossed!

An update! All is going well with my application, so far. I have not been in front of the board, but, I am feeling confident.

They are finishing the investigation. I have been completely honest with any questions they have for me. I did not retain an attorney, as I cannot afford. I did do a bit of research and it seems like the odds are the same with an attorney as without (at least in AZ).

I am hoping for a positive outcome! Fingers crossed. Good luck to all nurses out there facing the same situation.

Any updates on your situation?

Thank you for asking. I did not get an attorney, but, I did reapply for my license. I do have 12.5 years of documented recovery, along with letter from counselor and proof I completed a year long recovery program.

Right now, apparently AZ is pretty backed up with investigations. As far as I know, all my paperwork is complete, I am just waiting on a date to go in front of the board. I spoke with the investigator in September and he told me not to expect to hear anything for 11 months or more. The website it si only 9 from the initial re-app but, I will prepare for the 11 months or more.

Please keep my in your thoughts! I am very hopeful.

I am in a similar situation... waiting on the board. Have you taken a refresher course?

No. I will have to, but, in order to enroll, you must have your license stamped from the BON, for "refresher course only". At least in Arizona. I have looked into a few, and I think I will go with MedStar Academy. It is more expensive than the others, but, you are guaranteed a preceptor. I know it would be difficult for me to find one on my own.

One of the other stips will be a nurse recovery group, if one is close enough to me. However, in Texas, there are none (in my city), so that will be an issue in the beginning. I will need to be in Texas as long as I can, before the clinical portion of the refresher, due to my current job. Once I start the clinicl portion of the refresher, I will have to move to AZ and remain there until the end of probation.

If you don't mind me asking, what is your situation and what state do you live in?

I'm in Wisconsin and was given limited license to complete the refresher which I recently did. Now just waiting to hear from the board about my permanent license. An yes, getting a preceptor was tricky but I just worked really hard once I was in and everything is (slowly) working out!

Stellababy, I am happy for you. Hang in there, I bet it will not be long! Glad you are done with the refresher. Let us all know how it works out for you. I hope you are able to find a great job and get back to nursing soon!

Stella, did you hear from the board yet? Permanent license? Let me know how things have worked out for you!

Nothing yet, there are figuring out what restrictions I will have, Waiting patiently or as patient as I can be.............
