I no longer submit online applications because I did not get responses.

Maybe never. I've been job hunting for a while lately and it appears that the quaint custom of acknowledging applications (or notifying you, eventually, that the position was filled by someone else) has gone the way of the dodo bird.

At the facility at which I currently work, I originally applied for several different jobs over a few months that I had found on the system's online job posting site. Each job description stated plainly and clearly that you were welcome to either download the application and mail it in, or apply online. Since I pride myself on putting together a good-looking CV and cover letter, on the best paper, etc., I mailed in my applications. When I applied, eventually, for my current position, I mailed in the application packet once again -- and was telephoned a few days later by the HR person responsible for that department, who wanted to tell me that they were really interested in me for the position, but she needed me to reapply for the position through the online application, because the HR people had all been told to disregard and toss any paper applications -- the organization was only accepting online applications. When I pointed out that it seemed odd that every job posting on the website still stated that you were welcome to apply either online or via snail mail, she just agreed that, yes, that seemed odd. So, I guess my other applications were just getting tossed in the trash and no one else even bothered to let me (and, presumably, everyone else applying for jobs by mail) know that that's what was happening to our applications!

I encourage you to follow up on the application (contact the contact person listed in the job posting and verify that they've received your material).

You wont. YOU have to be proactive and call THEM!

What if you call them and leave a detail message... and the Nurse Recruiter doesn't call back. How long do you wait to call them again.... Or should you wait since they have your voice on their answering machine? Thanks to anyone if you can give me advice on this....:)

Keep calling until you get a response or go to the HR department in person when you conclude that it has been too long with no response. Harder to tell you to your face that they are ignoring you as well as your application.

Thank you soooooo much for your advice...:)

I will definitely call them again. Also, this same hospital will be present at a Job Fair that I am attending on Thursday.
