I haven't talked with anyone from the AF just yet. I am in the beginning stages of research, and there are a few questions that I can't find answers to, so I'm hoping one of you will be able to answer it.
I am 31 and have been a RN for 5 years with an associates degree. I am going to graduate soon with a BSN. Will my 5 years of work as an ADN count towrads work experience when they calculate what my ranking will be? Any idea what I will be ranked at?
After I commit myself (after I get my BSN), what will happen next? I understand that I will have training for several weeks (or months?) out of state, but what happens after that? Can I return home? I'd like to move back to Chicago and work at a VA hospital. I'm not sure what my duties will be when I'm not deployed, so I guess what I"m asking is, what are the steps?
Did any of you sign up for 20 + years? Everyone keeps telling me to sign up for 4 years and be done with it, but I am all about retirement at this point in my life. I can't see a strong future for myself working in civilian hospital the rest of my life. Will I have to commit myself to 20 + years upfront, or can I just take it 5 years at a time?
How many vacation days do you start off with? And if I choose to stay in Chicago when I'm not deployed, my life will be pretty nmuch the same as it is now, yes?
Sorry and TIA.
