Advice?

Hello, I just wanted to see some opinions.

so I have been a nurse for 1yr now and just made the move from med-surg/Tele to the PCU in the small community-based hospital I work at. This new unit does not allow overtime so I went to another(much larger) neighboring hospital to just apply for a per diem position to pickup shifts.

the interview went really well and they offered me a full-time position in their cardiac stepdown unit-which I’d really like to do and advance into the CVICU which my current hospital does not have and they also offered me a $10k sign on bonus.

my current hospital has me tied into a contract for another year because I was in the new grad residency and would have to pay a $5k penalty. I also would feel a little guilty because I literally just finished orientation in the PCU like 2 weeks ago. I also don’t want to burn a bridge with my current company because it is quite large and have facilities all over the country and don’t want to become unemployable with them.

any advice is much appreciated.

You're still new and still learning; don't burn out on overtime, and don't burn bridges. Your contract time will fly by and they'll be PLENTY of opportunities for you then as well.
