Advice?

I am debating over which specialty I want to be apart of whether its prenatal or neonatal; any advice for a future student?

As a future student, please go into school with an open mind. Just because you think it's an area you want to work in at the moment doesn't mean that it will stay that way once you've had a taste of it during clinicals. I thought I wanted to work peds or L&D. They ended up being my least favorite areas, and it would take a lot for me to even consider applying for a position in one of those specialties.

I agree with Rose Queen- I totally thought I wanted to do adult ICU and trauma and the whole nine yards. I actually worked on a trauma surgery floor as a tech at the local level I facility and did enjoy it...although once I did my peds rotation and realized I could take care of babies, that was it, done and over for me.

You have plenty of time- enjoy school! Keep reading on allnurses and best of luck wherever you end up.

I had my mind set on the stereotypical male RN positions (Adult ICU, Trauma, ER). It wasn't until a rotation at my local hospital in the Level II NICU that I found my niche. I was fortunate to get a NICU job at a children's hospital as a new grad.
