I am currently working on a med-surg/orthopedic floor. I graduated last year in May. I have been applying everywhere looking for a different job, because my current one is sucking every ounce of happiness out of me. I can't stand my current job. I also work night shift and really need to get off it, because it's wearing me down physically. I have an interview next Tuesday with a small hospital for a cath lab position. I know it's a Monday-Friday 8-5 position. They don't take call, and only do diagnostic tests. They are looking to build their team. I believe she said they average 4 cases a day. It's a very small hospital and I know the experience wouldn't be like it would be in a big city hospital. The job sounds interesting and it's something different and fits all the criteria of a new job that I am looking for. Would this sound like an okay position for me to take, considering I'm still a little fresh out of school. I know med-surg is NOT for me. I just can't do this job that much longer. But I don't want to make the wrong choice when changing jobs!
Any advice would be appreciated :)

Cath labs are geat places to work if the docs are OK. You have to (literally) work hand in hand with them, and if they are spooty, then the job could end up sucking big time.
Make sure that the new job will provide you with adequate training & ongoing opportunities for continuing education. There is a certain amount of inescapable tedium in a non-interventional cath lab - simply because of the limited amount of procedures you will do. If that - and wearing a lead apron 8 hours a day - is OK with you, then go for it!!
