Advice on paying for school

I'm hoping someone out there can help me out with this. I was planning on starting a 2nd degree BSN program this summer, but I've been informed that I used up all the Federal Loan $$ I can get on my first BA and our school is out of Perkins $$ (BTW, is that common? I was told that the average Perkins loan per student is only $1400/year -not semester- because they allocate more funds to Stafford Loans). Anyway, I don't have a co-borrower and most private lenders say that I just miss the cutoff for their loans due to the fact that I haven't been at the same job for at least 2 years. I contacted some people at my school and they've told me that there aren't many scholorships available for people who already have a Bachelor's. I realize that many hospitals will pay off a portion of your loans, but I don't have any up-front $$. So, right now, I'm taking a year off and trying to save. Any other ideas/suggestions?

On a related subject, if I just take 1 year off, I'll be 31 when I start and 33 when I graduate. I'd like to do Advanced Practice someday. Anyone have experience getting their NP in their 30s-40s that could offer advice on it?

Hi Bryan,

The company that I go through is www.cfsedloans.com. They have been excellent for me because they not only give tuition money, but also cost of living, books, groceries, etc...whatever you want to use the loan for. It is payed directly to you. And you can defer for several months after graduation. The option I use required 2 years of work (i'm not sure if it has to be at the same place) and that you are in school. Check out their site...they have several different options.

P.S. Don't give up...you can always live off ramen noodles for the semester...hey, 10 for a dollar!! :rotfl: (been there, done that).

Good luck to you, and I hope this helps!!

Do the private lender require good credit. Do anyone know the average scores.

Yes they do require good credit. However You can always apply with a cosigner and increase your chances of being approved. Hey, if I can get a loan without a cosigner, then ANYONE can get one:chuckle

I was a stripper....that worked really well...

Hi!

I went through Bank One for my private loan. You can take up to 30,000 a year (depending on school) and they send you the check.

I do not have the best credit and they approved me w/0 a cosigner. I was really surprised when they did.
