advice on equipment

hello wise sages,

i am new to home health (hired part time today). i was told to start w/ my own bp monitor, stethoscope and thermometer. my employer said they would supply pretty much everything else.

question, how high (or low) quality equipment is necessary (good bp machines are over $500) and how much can a field rn reasonably expect from the agency r/t supplies?

what is your feedback and specific recommendations r/t my own equipment. i appreciate whatever you have to offer as far as advice, too!

thanks,

too old to be new to this!

Why not just get a good old sphygmo and use that? Does it have to be a machine? Manual BP's done correctly are probably better and your ears don't go out of calibration.

i will always trust myself with a bp reading over a machine. anyday.

Go to Wallmart and get the cheapest sphygmo you can buy. Your agency should be supplying these things. You are being paid for you skills and knowledge not as a fee free equipment supplier. Better idea- tell them you would rather not work for an agency that can't supply the professional staff with the required equipment to do thier job and RUN RUN RUN elswhere. I don't know what the job market is in your area but in NE Ohio there request wouldn't be acceptable.
