I'm an overseas nurse and am planning to work as a nurse in the states few years later.
but my concern is if I have less chances to get a job because of my career.
worked in med/surg for 3 years from 2000-2003.
and I have been working as clinicall research nurse at the hospital field for 2.5years.
(medicine for 1.4 years, 1 year for occology part.)
1.is my research nurse career minus for getting a job there? or ok? (don't mind nursing home or else.)
2.if it finish family NP program, could my situation be better in the job market?
please give me any advice..

Hi there. The job market here is pretty tight. My experience has been that employers will only hire you if you have recent current experience in the specialty they are hiring for (for example, you likely would be able to get a research job if you have research experience, but not a job into another specialty). I do see some nursing homes hiring new grads, so I would imagine you could possibly have luck in that area. But in general, competition is fierce. Many employers want you to have previous substantial experience in the specialty, and won't train you into a new one. I am not sure about the NP job market. Maybe someone else can chime in on that one. Good luck to you!
thank you for the advice~!!
