I'm applying for an accelerated bridge to MSN program that uses 5 criteria equally to determine acceptance: undergrad gpa, personal interview, professional references, TEAS score, and personal statement essay.
I feel confident about everything but the undergrad gpa - I got a degree in another field and had so-so grades, around a 2.9. However, in my nursing pre-reqs I have a 4.0. Not sure what that elevates my total gpa to. My first choice school requires a 2.6 in pre-reqs, and says the average entering total gpa is a 3.2.
If I DON'T get in the first time around, can any of you recommend courses I can take to further demonstrate my commitment to the field and also raise my gpa?

Only a 2.9 GPA:eek:??!!?? Pitiful!
I, on the other hand, had a stellar, exceptional (cough...hack...) 2.59 GPA in chemical engineering.
It's amazing what a few (OK...close to ~25) years of added maturity, personal focus, and determination can do for your grades. I just wish that I had been as willing to WORK for my grades back in 1979-1983. Oh well....coulda...shoulda...woulda.
Don't fret about your low undergrad GPA. Ask the program director what you can do to PROVE that you are capable of doing the work. In my case, it took a mix of doing very well (1370) on the GRE, plus having two extra recommendations from my A&P and Micro professors. Like you, I had 4.0 GPA for my nursing prereqs (along with a 4.0 for the paramedic & Japanese language coursework I'd taken in the previous 10+ years). I also added a recommendation from my psych prof, just for because.
It can work out. Don't be afraid to pushily/respectfully SELL yourself, and ask how you can prove that you're capable of doing the accelerated/graduate level work.
Good luck!

I would recommend Pathophysiology or maybe an upper level stats class if you haven't had stats in the past 10 years.
I have a lower GPA and am applying for a MSN next Spring - I started taking extra classes this summer to improve my GPA so I can relate. Good luck!
