I just started my adv patho and it's tough. We have multiple chapters to read every week plus quizzes/case studies nearly every week and a few papers. I would say overtime is probably not the best idea during this class.

I was working fulltime at the time I took Advanced Patho and did fine, and I did work a fair bit of overtime in there too (but not a crazy amount). But, it was my only class so I had plenty of time to study. It is a hard class in that there is a lot of material to master and memorize, but it is also an interesting class and you will find that it builds on your experience as an RN.

Thank you for the input!!

how many tests did you all have fpr anatomy?

I think it is school-specific. A friend of mine did patho and pharm together and was working overtime while i did same courses and could hardly find time to work twice a week let alone work overtime ..lol. When i asked, i was told their pharm was very easy since they were not timed on tests and it was open book. Go figure! ..lol

As far as tests, it is also school-specific. We did about 3 or 4 tests and many case studies.

My honest advise is not to work too hard as far as overtime while doing these courses because they are quite challenging and very demanding. I don't even want to hear about retaking any class at all. I want to do it and get it over with, so i have to give it all it takes. There is always room to work extra whenever time permits. Good luck!

It is absolutely school specific. Our class had an MD teach it and he was an amazing instructor. He took out ALL of the fluff. We had him for undergrad patho also so we all knew what to expect. Never touched the book. We had 3-4 tests in each. All I studied was what he wrote on the board that wound up being 3-ish pages front and back of handwritten notes. Kicker is you had to know those notes forwards and backwards as his exams exams were mind trips. He had true false or a, b, both, or neither. Some exams were all of one or all of the other. There was even one where ALL were true/false questions and all but about 3 of the questions were true. Talk about freaking out.

Anyway with us knowing what to expect (and no other homework) we were able to do whatever and spend just a few hours per week studying what was clinically relevant vs. extra stuff.

I doubt many other professors are like him...but yeah. Some break it down to the clinically relevant info and help you logic out the rest.

Im so excited to hear you guys' input! This puts me at ease just a tad. I'm the type of person that puts 100% into school, so I know I will try my best but with working I am just nervous! I do have a MD teaching pharmacology and am looking forward to it!
