ADN programs without waitlist for fall 2012 or early 2013

Hello Everyone!! I am new to ALLnurses, and am so excited to share my journey with you!!

So here is my situation; First, I would like to say that my goal is to become a Family Nurse Practitioner with a specialization in Nurse Midwifery. I currently hold a Bachelors degree in a field outside of nursing and am currently working on my Masters in Health Admin. I decided to start my current graduate program so that I could boost my GPA, as I was originally going to go straight for a Direct Entry program. Because of my extremely low GPA(2.2) I was told by a director that my graduate hours along with my prereqs would hold more weight as far as admission.

After speaking with several schools, I've learned that the Direct Entry programs are extremely competitive and you really need not only a great GPA, but an "it" factor(such as extensive volunteer work) related to nursing in order to even be considered. Vanderbilt even explained that if you are already a nurse, it is much easier to get in.

I am an intelligent young woman, and am perfectly capable of a much higher GPA(my current GPA in my Masters program is a 4.0), but when I first started college right out of high school, I not only went through some challenging times outside of academia, but also was not as serious about my education.

Now that I have graduated, there is nothing that i can do to change my undergrad GPA, so i am focused on doing the best in my prereqs and current program.

I have decided that i would like to do an ADN program, and then apply for an MSN program that has an option for an ADN holder with a Bachelors in another program other than nursing(Marquette University).

In my current area, all schools have a 2 year waiting list!!

I am looking to relocate so that I could find a program that has an earlier start date such as this fall or early next year. Does anyone know of any?? Also, I have reached my aggregate amount on undergrad money(which is what attracted me to the Direct entry program), so going to a CC and getting an ADN, would be much more affordable than a BSN or ABSN.

If anyone knows of ANY Community Colleges that don't have any waiting lists with start dates this year or early next spring let me know!!

Where do u live ? If ur in Los Angles, try Lattc. Good ouck

Amarillo, Tx has a great program and there is no waiting list. It is competitive; based off of your pre-req gpa and hesi scores. Good luck!

Hudson County Community College in Jersey City, NJ has two programs. I know one of them doesn't have a waiting list, but they start every September. So that's kind of cutting it very, very close.

I currently live in Missouri, but will be relocating to attain my ADN. I'm completely open!!

Thanks, I will give Amarillo and Jersey City a call tomorrow.

Specializes in Primary Care; Child Advocacy; Child Abuse; ED.

Cox college in Springfield may be a option for you. There is no waiting list. Based on prerequisite gpa. Deadline for spring is 15 July. There absn is very competitive but maybe you can get into the bsn or asn they are a little less competitive. Asn requires 3.0 but lowest accepted last semester I believe is 3.6 and bsn was 3.56 good luck with your journey!!!
