ADN or BSN PROGRAM

Published

Hello All,

I am trying to decide on what program I should do. I already have a bachelors degree, but I also have a few prerequisites to finish up before I can apply. Once I am done with my prerequisites, I would like to apply to either an adn or bsn program.

  1. I wanted to know from the ADN RN's if they found employment quickly? For me, it doesn't really matter which route I take as far as the degree; however employment wise, i'd like a guarantee somewhat of a job.
  2. Recent ADN graduate over the last two years especially, what has the job market been like for you? What kind of experience did you have prior? Are you going for a BSN?
  3. BSN nurses do you feel like you made the right choice in just getting a BSN? Do you know any ADN nurses on your floor who are thriving and don't need a BSN?

Thanks in Advance!

Depending on your geographic location, a job is not guaranteed regardless of whether you have an ADN or BSN degree. Some locations have stable employment markets for new grad RNs, whereas other cities and states are overly saturated with too many new grads.

I'm an ADN graduate and I had a job lined up months before I graduated and was offered a job where I precepted that I turned down. I live in the south where they are hiring ADNs.

It honestly depends on your area. Certain areas have way too any new grads so they can be picky about who they hire. Others are in need of nurses so they hire ADNs and BSNs. There is never a guarantee of a job upon graduation. The nursing job market is like any other and experiences ebbs and flows.

it depends on your area, in Louisiana many of the job applications that i came across said must have bsn !
