Addison Disease Priority

Hi everyone,

which of the 2 lab values below is a alarming for an Addison disease patient?

137 Serum Sodium or 70 Blood Glucose ?

Featured Replies

Both readings are normal. Addison's usually low NA, low BG, low cortisol, high K.

Hi Bridge, take note that both of this lab values might precipitate Addisonian Crises which is a Medical Emergency.

However, I don't know which of the 2 lab values requires a nursing priority.

is it Hypoglycemia or Hypotension ?

Very true...very true. That's a tough one...I'd say get the BP taken care of ASAP and then bs. I don't see the problem with the sodium as to that's WNL.

I would be more alarmed about the blood sugar. 137 is a fine sodium level...unless I'm missing something. 70 earns you a snack in my book.
