ACNP vs CRNA

hi all. i'm wanting to go back to school. i need more informations before i do though, and i thought maybe some of you guys could help me. i initially wanted to go back to school to be ACNP because i have 3 years of ICU and Hyperbaric experience, but i already make 80,000 a year and i dont' wanna go back to school to make the same amount of money. my husband is graduating from CRNA school in two months, and am starting to consider CRNA. the only thing that i'm scared of is that i'm not good at GRE or MAT. can someone give me more info on what kind of job opportunities ACNP (line insertion at IR, ICU, clinics etc) and how much they make. Thank you! any info is appreciated!

If the GRE was the only thing holding you back from CRNA..and you want to be a CRNA... I would start studying for the GRE.

I'm not a great 'standardized test taker' and just took mine yesterday - you can do it!

Do some hunting...:typing Not every CRNA program requires the GRE to gain acceptance into the program. You may be able to find one of these programs in your area.

Best of luck!

omg, I'm in the SAME exact boat as you...well maybe not EXACT but pretty darn close! (Look at my signature at the bottom of my posts!- lol!) As you can see I'm also stuck between ACNP and CRNA but I am not very good at math and am dreading the GRE. I even have the same amount of experience as you (3 years! - freaky!) Maybe we can brainstorm together and help each other out with a decision. :) PM me if you'd like!

Wait a minute, I just realized that your profile says that you're from Baltimore (I am assuming Baltimore, MD). If this is the case, Univ. of MD DOES NOT require the GRE to get into their CRNA program. Here is their link:

http://nursing.umaryland.edu/programs/ms/anesthesia.htm

Very recently, Univ. of MD SON changed their policy and they only require the GRE for their PhD program (so that would mean that you wouldn't need to take the GRE either if you do decide to go the ACNP route instead).

Hope this helped!

my friend is graduating from UMB and she hates it. the instructors are horrible. so i have to say no to UMB even though they don't require GRE. but thanks though! anything helps! i actually didn't know that they didn't require GRE.

What program at UMB is your friend graduating from? Is she in the CRNA program? I am wanting to apply there. Why does she think that the instructors are horrible???? This comes as a shock and a surprise to me, so I was wondering why she thought this. Thanks!

how are you studying for your CCRN?

I have a couple of books that I got from NTI this year. I have the AACN's core review book for critical care (it's PACKED with info) as well as a book that has 3 practice tests. I am hoping to be ready to take it within the next couple of months. I'm also hoping to take biostatistics through Rush University as an internet class so that I can have a graduate level class under my belt by the time I apply (which I'd really like to be 2009).
