Hi, does anyone know what international nurses do for accomodation when they first get to australia? I know some employers offer residence style accomodation. I am going by myself so i dont need a house, i just wanted a small apartment but i didnt know how much i should arrange before i get there and what can wait until i get there. Has anyone had any experience going to melbourne by themselves in regard to accomadation options?

Not any hospital accommodation that I know of. But: sites for accommodation:

http://www.gumtree.com.au (like craiglist, public boards, flatmates etc)

http://www.wotif.com.au (last minute cheap hotels)

http://www.realestate.com.au (rentals)

http://www.domain.com.au (rentals)

I had worked in East of Melbourne in one of the nursing homes there. You can try looking at http://www.share-house.com.au/melbourne . Are you a Filipina? I can help you contact some friends there who can help y ou find a house with pinays to share the house with too. Which part of Melbourne are you going to stay? Are you going to work there as a nurse? Goodluck.

I am canadian, and i am still unsure of which area i want to work in because i am still waiting to get registered. Any ideas on some popular areas?

I would personally prefer Melbourne among other states in Aus. It's the sports capital and people there are more congenial , I reckon. Have you been assessed by the nursing board there? Which state? Good luck to you.

I applied to the NBV a while ago, hopefully it wont be too much longer, cause i am pretty much ready to go. I want to go to melbourne. do you know a good area near the major hospitals?

You can find most big hospitals in the city. If you want to work outskirt then East of Melbourne is nice. You would find big hospitals there too. I love it there as it is scenic. I enjoyed Olinda as you would see the whole CBD from there. City is fast paced and the outskirts are pretty fun if you enjoy nature. Good luck to you stay there. I miss it there.

You would not want to live in Olinda, it's miles and miles from anywhere. If you're working inner city or inner suburbs, try: St Kilda, Elwood. Lots of share places there and public transport. Really depends where you're doing to be working. If you give some details, I will try to be more specific.

I really want to be city center since i am going myself. I want to be kinda close to a little bit of everything, but still safe. Any ideas?

If you really want to be in or near the city center, try south melbourne or southbank. otherwise, as i said, st kilda or elwood, brunswick or fitzroy.
