Woo Hoo!!!! I'm so relieved, excited, and terrified! I was just offered a part-time position on a peds/medical unit in a community hospital near my house. I don't start orientation until november 13th but have plenty to keep me occupied until then....buying supplies and whatnot...cooking and freezing a bunch of food so dinner's not such a challenge....etc...
This will be my first job in the healthcare field and am wondering about what kinds of things I'll need to buy....I know I'll need a good pair of shoes and I promised myself an nice, new stethescope (any reccomendations?) but how many uniforms should I get to start? 5? 7? Warm-up jackets? Any other reccomendations about other things I may find useful to have? Thanks!

Congrats on the new job! What will your schedule be like in terms of number of days per week?
I'll be part-time....2 days one week, 3 days the next week but I will be working full time for my orientation period (about 2 months).

A good pair of bandage scissors & hemostats are always useful. If you're looking at a max of 3 days a week 4 uniforms & 2 warmup jackets would probably be a good start (uniforms can get expensive). Littmann makes really good stethascopes & they do have a ped size available, but I'm not sure of the cost for a ped scope. A good pocket calculator would probably come in handy, too. Congrats on your new job & good luck to you! :)
