Hi Everyone!
I am new to this website and still trying to navigate it! I am currently waiting to hear back from Loyola University Chicago about whether I got into their accelerated nursing program or not. First want to give you guys a quick background on my academic history! I recently graduated from Michigan State University in May of 2017 and have found my passion in life which is nursing. However, my gpa is a bit on the lower side...I had a 2.8 GPA at MSU and had a rough start to college with being home sick and trying to accustom myself to the new surroundings. Loyola requires a minimum gpa of 3.0 and the website says that if you fall below the 3.0 gpa, they will factor pre reqs and transcripts into your overall gpa. I retook Chemistry last summer and that helped bring back up my GPA, but biology and physiology really brought my GPA down with the difficulty of the class. I am currently taking anatomy and physiology at a community college and have been doing well in the class so far. Really striving to get As in all of my pre reqs! I have 2 years of CNA experience, currently working as a cna in a pediatric unit, and had an internship in a hospice home my Senior year of college. I have been in contact with the Loyola advisor and she has made me feel hopeful about the program by saying I would be a great fit in the program, however still very nervous about the possible outcome of not getting accepted . I have found other nursing programs that will take students with a 2.75 gpa and above which is awesome! I am looking to hear back from anyone that is currently or has been in my shoes in the past!!

I cannot speak for ALL accelerated BSN programs, but the general rule is that they do require a high GPA in pre-reqs, and ANY undergrad degree. With that said, you may want to broaden your horizon by considering generic BSN and ASN programs, that are not so hard on perfect GPA.

Hello. Did you apply for the hybrid program or are you trying for the on site cohort? I'm currently waitlisted for the on site cohort since it filled before my application could be reviewed. I was just under the 3.0 requirement (2.93) but I attended a very rigorous undergraduate institution. I graduated in June 2017 and they did factor in some of my pre-reqs which did push me over. Loyola does consider the candidate as a whole so if you are just under the GPA requirement, but show you are doing well in pre-reqs and have good recommendations/a good personal statement, it might be enough to outweigh the GPA.
Hi there,
Which cohort did you apply to? For fall 2018 or spring 2019?
@EFB123 I applied to the fall 2018 cohort.
