Anyone else out there applied for the Accelerated MS (Nurse Practitioner) program at VCU for Spring 2011? Just thought I'd start a discussion for anyone who has applied and wants to talk about it.

Hi,

I applied to the Accelerated MS program also. I am very hopeful, but also a little worried as they don't have many spaces in the program. I have already been declined at other in-state schools...the competition is fierce!! Which track did you apply to? I applied to Acute Care.

Good luck,

Michelle

Yeah, the competition is very fierce! I have a good friend who started their program this past summer, and says she loves it. I applied to the FNP track. I have no idea what to expect about interviews, notification, etc. Guess we'll find out soon enough!

My professor went through this program a few years ago and spoke highly of it. But other then that I do not have any info. Good luck!

Did either/all of you get your BSN from VCU? If not, then where? Just curious, my daughter is in the traditional BSN prgram at VCU.

No, I have no nursing degree now. The Accelerated MS program is for people who have bachelors degrees in another field. You have to take prerequisites (like anatomy, physiology, microbiology, etc) and apply. The program will give you both a BS in Nursing and a MS in nursing in three years. It's an accelerated, all-together program.

That's wonderful! I know my daughter (she doesn't follow allnurses) is considering the NP program after she finishes her BSN. It's a wonderful school, she absolutely loves the entire school of nursing program/staff/facilities. I hope the best for you, you all have chosen the highest profession of service out there!

Hi flaneur and Michelle. I'm new to this discussion, and I applied to VCU AMSN for summer 2012. Did you guys get accepted and if so, would you mind sharing with me your stats. (i.e. gpa, gre, sat, etc. student types and their backgrounds. how many amsn and absn students total. ) Also do you know anything about the admission process. Also could you share your overall experience of the program.

Thanks for any input,
