I am a Canadian citizen who will be completing a 1 year ABSN program in the states this year. In order to get the visa screen, will it be a problem that my program is only 1 year not two? Also, if I eventually want to practice in Canada, will this be possible? I know their programs tend to be longer. Thank you so much in advance for your help.

Since this is not about working as a nurse in Canada but about maybe- someday-I-may-think-about-it this more properly belongs in the International forum. As a practicing Canadian nurse, I don't know what an ABSN is, so I can't help you with your question. By the time you decide you want to work in Canada, every province will require a BScN for entry to practice.

ABSN is an accelerated program that will grant the BSN for those that hold a Bachelor's in another field.

The issue is not going to be with the US but will be with the Canadian government if you decide to return to work there later on. In most cases, it will not meet the requirements for licensure in any province there since you will not be in an approved school of nursing for a minimum specific amount of time to meet their requirements. I would suggest checking with the province that you are interested in.
This type of program is also not accepted by most other countries for immigration purposes as well.
