Hello OR Nurses!
I am a med-surg RN with two years experience on the floors, and about to start a periop 101 program. I realize it is a completely different world of nursing, and I am really excited to have the opportunity to become a periop RN.
However, I am a little nervous about beginning the program, and have been told that there is a lot to learn and a steep learning curve. Can anyone give me any advice about how to approach this new area of nursing? Any tips on how to prepare myself for this? Any recommended readings or books I could look at to give myself a head start?
I want to be the best I can be in the course, and any advice from experienced OR RNs, or perhaps RNs who have recently completed the AORN periop 101 course, or who have trained RNs new to the OR, would be greatly appreciated!

Great question. I'd like to know too. I like you, will be training and transitioning to PeriOp. GL

You will find a wealth of tips in some of the FAQs and Articles posted here in the OR forum. If you go to the OR forum home, you will see across the top a blue bar with Latest Articles FAQs Conferences. Clicking on FAQs will bring up some of the best threads. Same with articles. The two I recommend starting with are What Do Operating Room Nurses Do and Tips for New Operating Room Nurses. You will find a wealth of experiences and tips from OR nurses along with probably a lot of information you never thought to ask about.
Thank you so much Rose Queen for the links and suggestion to click on FAQs! I really appreciate it. I have been following the threads in the OR forum. Your posts and articles are so informative and well-written. Thank you so much for taking the time to help an RN new to the OR! I am so excited to be entering the world of OR nursing...! Excited (and nervous) about the large amount to learn - Thanks again for your help!
Thank You! You are amazing!
