ABG

I'm stuck on a question on my ABG homework. From the results I found, I have to give an example of a disease process which could cause this imbalance. Can someone explain how I would find this?

These are the results I have

  1. pH 7.49-alkalosis CO2 24-alkalosis HCO3 20-acidosis PO2 67-mild hypoxemia

Acid-Base Imbalance: Non-compensating respiratory acidosis

Disease Process:?????

First, take another look at what you labeled the imbalance :)

First, you need to revisit your interpretation of the ABG results. Those values do not represent an uncompensated respiratory acidosis. Once you've correctly interpreted the results, you can move on to identifying a disease process that could be the cause.

Specializes in NICU, RNC.

Ditto the others, you don't have acidosis.

Then think about what would cause CO2 level to be low.

Also, keep in mind that when both Bicarb and CO2 are out of range, that there is SOME compensation taking place.
