Anybody ever travel with ab staffing to an IHS hospital . I was considering this as an option. Just wanted any thoughts.

I would love to hear what you decide and how it goes for you. I have been talking with them for the same thing but won't be ready until mid-summer. I'm just about to start a 13 week local contract in NYC. Good luck whatever you decide and keep me posted!

I am on contract with them now. Jay Ward has been a fantastic staffer so far and their housing rep is really on top of things.

I am very familiar with them. This is probably the 1 company that I would publicly vouch for.. They specialize in Govt contracts mostly Indian Health in AZ and SD and seem to always have an ER need.
They also get random VA Hospital contracts spread out across the country. The last I heard they had MedSurg at the Dallas & Philadelphia VA. (Problem is it take 3-6 months to get hired).
Ive traveled to several of the AZ locations: Chinle, Parker & Shonto AZ.
What was your opinion of Shonto? How were the housing prices up there?
I liked Shonto, it was out in the middle of nowhere but the people were cool & the views were AMAZING.. We had our own little community of travelers and I made some pretty good friends (some still with AB Staffing).
Housing was a little tricky at first, I had the choice of Kayenta Mobile Home Park (expensive and nothing nice) or Page AZ (expensive and far).. I went with Kayenta for a month and ended up scoring onsite housing.

Hello 79Tango !
I'm considering a contract in Chinle, I work L/D. Were you housed on the reservation? If not, where did you stay and can you tell me the approx. cost? I'll have 1 dog with me, which I was told was no problem. At the time I was talking with my recruiter, they had a space in the Thunderbird Lodge. Also, I had been offered a contract at Shiprock,NM but had accepted a contract close to my home. They told me that I would have a 20 min drive in as there is no housing on the reservation. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! Salmrnc61
Yes in Chinle the housing is limited. They do have onsite housing however most of the time it is full and they typically dont allow pets. The Thunderbird lodge is usually a good fall-back plan and costs about $1800/month which is cheaper then the other 2 hotels.
Shiprock is nice because it is located near Farmington NM, which is not on the Rez and has lots more housing options. The bad thing is its more like a 25mile drive or farther to work (depending where in Farmington).
I can tell you all kinds of things about both places, Ive known a bunch of people that have worked both places. What company are you going to be working with?

Hi Andrea! Can you please share with me any information that you might have about your assignment in NYC. I am planning to start travelling at the end of the summer and want to do NYC. How is your housing?
Hi Tango79,
I'll be working for AB staffing, I have a wonderful recruiter and am excited about my assignment. I will most likely be staying at the Holiday Inn since I keep reading that internet is very spotty at The TB Lodge and I have to keep good access. How did you like working at Chinle? Strengths/weaknesses of the facility? Was the staff friendly? I pretty much can blend in anywhere and am really looking forward to working for IHS.
Can you tell me how far the hospital is from the hotel (can't be very far) and also, any problems with vandalism? Also, it is important for me to always show respect, so are there any definite "don'ts" or "do's when caring for my pt's. Thanks for your insight.

I think its about 1.5miles from Holiday Inn. Sorry I dont know much about the L&D floor other than they have ongoing needs like all the other IHS locations. I know Chinle likes the "jack of all trades type" because they have alot of babies be born. If you are with AB, they should have the answers to all your questions, i know theyve been staffing there for years. Im sure your recruiter would square you away.

Are you still happy with AB Staffing? I have heard some bad things about that company and them not taking care of their travelers.
