A wee question.....

I am going to a nursing home for one of my COE placements. I previously had worked in a nursing home for three years as a carer, my concern is that I fear I will be used as a care assistant.

I understand that I will need to take on chores that care assistants do as these are basic nursing skills, however I fear this particular nursing home will have me act as a care assistant on a perminant basis rather than shadow the staff nurse on her rounds.

Can anyone offer me any advice on my position? :o

It is not clear if you are saying that you worked at this particular nursing home as a care assistant? If this is the nursing home you worked in before, are you thinking that since they know you, that's what they will do?

How does it usually work for the student's assignments thru the school you are in?

Do they shadow the nurses, do bedside care or a combination of both?

You should expect to get some training in both areas, I would think.

And surely they wouldn't think of putting you to work just doing all bedside care.

Have you spoken to your instructor about it?
