A question for PCT's

I had my first job as a patient observer last night, and I was also responsible for some PCT duties, like changing adult pads and sheets. The linen was hard to find and I couldn't obtain everything I needed in the supply room, and I was aware that the PCT's on the floor had their own supply carts. Would you get annoyed if student nurses/pt observers might ask you for something from your cart? I needed o ask because I was taking so long and just no supply was there to use, and I know by the look that the PCT's didn't always appreciate or a look that said I should know better and not be asking maybe. I didn't know what else to do. Any suggestions please?

How and wherefrom did the others get their carts and supplies?

And btw their "looks" should never bother you because you are there to care for someone who for whatever reason needs care at that particular time. Find your supervisor and get one of those carts and give him/her/it notice that you need supplies to work with in order to do your job. Buck up..

And no, I would not be bothered by a new person who needed help or supplies; however, if I had a cart to make my job easier, I would damn sure make sure they had one, even if I had to give them my own cart the first time. And only the first time, BTW. The facility needs to have proper supplies for everyone.

Girl, I've asked doctors questions that I "should know." If you don't know something it never hurts to ask. I don't ever get irritated when people ask me questions no matter who it is, and I never understand the people who do. It's okay :)

This seems strange to me. In my experience "my cart" is only my cart bc I'm in charge of keeping it stocked. I'm really only possessive over my dynamap! Lollol. Everything else is seen as a resource to the unit - in my opinion. Also.. If you are observing and helping change linens then I am assuming you are helping the PCTs out. With that being said, I wouldn't EVER have an issue helping out a team member if they are acting In the best interest of the patient. My advice is to Just ask nicely! Reiterate that you're there to help ... Etc.

I hope this helps! Good luck :) some PCTS can be unnecessarily aggressive about things that don't matter in the big scheme of things. I try and rise above behavior like that.

I agree with the above. You helping the PCT by doing something they would probably have to do themselves if you were not there, so I see no issue. Also, ask them where they got their "stuff". There may be a closet somewhere you don't know about.

Also as said above, talk to your supervisor and see if you can get a cart with the things you need or find out where/who can get stuff you don't have but need.
