If you were unable to keep up with your workload, then look for a job with a home health agency doing extended care, also known as shift work. Surely you can work with one patient for eight hours and do what needs to be done. I've known nurses in their 60s and in their 70s who worked extended care and kept their jobs. Little babies that need overnight monitoring and don't weigh more than 20 pounds come to mind as far as making it easy for yourself physically. One of those older nurses told me that she specifically saw that she was given these cases because she couldn't lift and transfer heavy patients any longer and she needed long periods of time to sit. You can't get any easier than sitting in a rocker watching a baby sleep for eight hours. Good luck.

I have been a nurse for over 20 years. I was terminated from my job. I was not eligible for unemployment. I fill out applications and send resumes but I don't get any interviews. I can't seem to get a job anywhere not even in a pizza parlor. I feel like a criminal although I'm not. I got fired because I couldnt keep up with my workload. But it wasn't all my fault.I had to do things nobody else would do because they didn't care.Well I guess that's my problem...I care.I have always had a strong work ethic and I've never not had a job. And I care about people. Just thinking about getting out of nursing altogether...
