My husband is being stationed in Virginia next month and I'd really like to get my degree in the 2-3 years we're there.

I came across Fortis College today and like that it's only a 15 month program start to finish. My concern is the accreditation. They're fully approved by the BON, but not accredited. Their NCLEX pass rate was 75% last year.

Since my family will obviously be moving around a lot, will I have difficulty finding a job without graduating from an accredited school? How much does that really matter if you've passed the NCLEX?

I started Fortis last week and it's Accredited in my state so maybe it will be accredited in Virginia by the time you graduate. But you should call around companies and ask if they want u to graduate from an accredited school. Some places just want you to be an RN but idk how Virginia does it. Sorry couldn't be more help.

I wouldn't waste my money on a non-accredited school. Nor would I spend it on any "for-profit" school with a "quickie" program. They are simply not respected enough to be worth the investment.

Fortunately, Virginia has a strong system of Community Colleges with decent nursing programs -- that are fully accredited. Most have arrangements with BSN programs to ease your transition to higher education later. Don't take a chance on a risky school. Make whatever sacrifices you need to make to go to one with a good reputation. Virginia offers lots of options to choose from.

don't go to fortis, it won't be recognized out of the area. I would look into a community college where most likely you can transfer your credits anywhere you move to.

Fortis in the Hampton Roads area has a very bad reputation, I would avoid it at all costs. Accreditation matters if you ever want to further your career.
