I have an interview for a per diem postpartum position that I really, really want. I'm an l&d nurse and want to be prepared. Any tips on what questions I should plan for? I only have one day to prepare. Thanks!

Talk about why PP appeals to you. Emphasize your experience with taking care of mom and baby. Breastfeeding and patient teaching should also be highlighted. You got this !!!!!!

Congrats for getting this far! I remember from your previous threads that you wanted to get out of L&D.

When I interviewed for M/B, I cracked open my OB book to brush up on postpartum hemorrhage, mag, breastfeeding tips, etc. However, during the interview I didn't get asked one clinical question. Instead I got questions like where do you see yourself in 5 years, why this unit, if you have a problem with the assignment how would you handle it. It was a pretty easy and laid back interview. Every interview is different and it's always good to be well prepared.

Thanks! I feel like clinically I should be ok...I hope. I obviously recover women immediately postpartum and often keep them as overflow patients, and I deal with PPH and mag patients often. I've also interned in postpartum so I don't think it's clinically anything I can't handle.

Yes, I am wanting out of l&d, although there are still some shifts I enjoy. I think my perfect world would be LDRP but we don't have any of those in my area. So I may just do both per diem (if I get this position) just to be sure before I jump ship completely!

Emphasize how important educating your patients is. We do a ton of teaching in post-partum. You will be educating mom and dad on self-care and infant care. You will be there to help the new family get off to a good start and bond. It will be part of your responsibility to help mom get off to a good start with breastfeeding, if that is what she chooses. Talk about how you would like to be part of all of this. It worked for me :). Good luck. I, too, left labor and delivery and went to post-partum. Much less stressful, but just as busy.

Thank you! That's exactly what I enjoy about pp, the teaching. I enjoy assisting with breast feeding and all the teaching that comes along with newborn care, especially first time parents. I rarely get that in L&D since we try and recover and move over in about 2 hours. I would rather be busy than bored! It's the constant high-alert stress and anxiety that comes with L&D that I would enjoy a break from.

The interview had went well and the manager asked if I would be willing to cross train to l&d since when census is low they convert to an LDRP. Of course, I said I would. I found out today I am being pushed forward to background and reference checks!!

I received the job offer last night!! I am so excited. My pay almost doubled! Crazy. I already completed the drug screen today and they have started the background check. Shooting for March 9th start for hospital orientation. YAY!!
