Hello guys, I am desperately looking for answers, please help me.

I am a graduate of BSN in one university in the Philippines 3 years ago. I didn't take the local board exam over there coz of some reasons ( financial) and so I didn't able to practice nursing. Now I am in the United States,living in Texas and I would want to pursue my nursing career here. Please can you guys give me some tips on how to start.

1.Does BON Texas doesn't require me take the local board exam in the Philippines before applying for the RN exam here?

2. Do they require me to take more classes or clinical?

3. Do i need to take any pre screening examination prior to applying for the NCLEX RN? eg. CGFNS, NURsing jurisprudence exam. Some say yes , some say no, I am so confuse.

Please help me just arrived in Texas,I'm new here. Thanks a lot.

Have you looked at the state BON website?

There's one very good thread here that takes you step-by-step, with the costs involved and the approx. timing of the various requirements, take the time to read it and there's a couple of others. You'll probably find 99% of all your concerns there.

International Candidates - to be eligible to take the NCLEX®, you will need the following:

Each of these:

a completed Application by NCLEX® Examination

all fees

a completed criminal history report

proof of passing scores of English Proficiency exam (if program was not conducted in English). If your nursing program was conducted in a Language other than English, you must provide proof of English Proficiency. The Board accepts any one of these:

the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a passing score of 560 paper based or 220 computer based

the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) internet based test (iBT) with a minimum passing score of 83

receipt of both the Test of Spoken English (TSE) with a minimum score of 50 and the Test of Written English (TWE) with a minimum score of 4.0, or

the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a passing standard of an overall score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in all of the four modules.

an original Credential Evaluation Service (CES) Full Education course-by-course report sent directly from an approved organization. The Board accepts the CES from any one of these:

the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) CGFNS International | Global Credibility

the Educational Records Evaluation Service, Inc. (ERES) Educational Records Evaluation Service (ERES): We Evaluate Foreign Academic Credentials, or the

Note: The CES must be dated within one year of issuance by the certification organization.

a Verification of Licensure (VOL) form from all countries, states, provinces, and/or territories where you hold or have held a license. The VOL must come directly from the licensing authority and must bear the authority’s official seal. The VOL is only valid for one (1) year after it is signed and sealed by the licensing authority. (RN VOL form, LVN VOL from)

*Note: the CES Full Education course-by-course report will contain your original country of licensure’s VOL.

Follow the instructions provided on Criminal Background Checks (See 3 under Online Procedures, above.)

All international applicants must provide proof of working in nursing for a period totaling two (2) years (i.e. 24 months) at any time after graduation from a nursing program. If you have not worked at least two (2) years as a first level, general nurse within the four (4) years preceding the filing of the application, you will not be licensed until you complete a Foreign Educated Nurse (FENS) refresher course consisting of 120 hours of classroom instruction and 120 hours of clinical practice under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. If you are required to take the FENS refresher, you will be given a six (6) month permit to complete the refresher course.

I saw you posted this same question on Visa Journey. I have been in Philippines the last month and have limited net connection, Will return back home to USA in a few days.

Long story short, You do not need to take local exam in Philippines.

Texas BON will be your Guide on what you need . FENS Refresher course will be decided if you need to take, by the Texas BON once you pass NCLEX

Hello ma'am, i have the same problem. I graduated in philippines and I want to apply for nclex texas. I inquired in agency that process nclex application and they denied me because they said texas needs local license. But I've talked to a lot of nurses who is in US if they took local license, they said they didnt they just send explanation letter why they werent able to take it. My reason is because I am processing spousal visa and my estimated month to be in US is this coming october. The next local board is on November. Should I start applying now or wait till I am in US? Your response will be a great help

Instead of speaking to an agency why not speak to the BON?

Yes that's what my husband said but I emailed them already and they sent me the same on their website. I asked my husband to cal them as they he is also in texas and he can call him for free. He said he will try. If I do it can I use my philippine number?

What Philippine number?
